AI is changing every career pathway you run, from healthcare to manufacturing to business. CTE directors know students need AI skills. What's harder is finding CTE grants that fund AI specifically.
How districts are funding AI in CTE
At FETC 2026, K-12 leaders described how districts are using grants, pre-apprenticeships, and industry certifications to build clear routes into high-skill jobs. Grants are the starting point, and a few states have created AI-specific CTE funding.
New Jersey's AI Technology in CTE Pathways grant supports districts with state-approved CTE programs in creating project-based AI learning, building industry partnerships, and training CTE staff. In South Carolina, a grant-supported initiative gives participating districts educator professional development, standards-aligned AI curriculum, industry resources, and ongoing technical assistance. Pennsylvania's PAsmart program lists CTE providers among eligible applicants.
Notice the pattern: these programs fund more than technology. They fund curriculum, teacher training, and industry connections together. That's the model to follow, whichever grant you apply for.
What if your state doesn't have an AI CTE grant?
Most states don't yet. In that case, CTE directors have two strong options. The first is Perkins V, your core federal CTE funding (see Can Perkins V Funds Pay for AI Curriculum?). The second is a national grant open to schools in any state.
A national option built for CTE: STEAM in AI™
The STEAM in AI™ grant from Congeriem and the DataEthics4All Foundation is open to US schools and covers 50% of implementation costs and readiness assessments for qualifying institutions.
It fits CTE well for three reasons. The program equips students with AI literacy, ethical decision-making, workforce skills, and hands-on experience building AI-powered solutions. The high school course has no prerequisites, so students in any pathway can take it as a shared AI foundation. And NAWI connects AI learning to trackable pathways into apprenticeship, higher education, and employment, which gives you the outcome data your advisory boards and state reports ask for.
